Main challenges for economic and social policy in the context of population ageing in Poland during the economic transition

The aim of the paper is to estimate the national and local governments' resources necessary to cover the needs of elderly in Poland face advanced ageing process of population and socio-economic transition. The problem is considered from macro perspective. The attention is paid on the following questions: 1. The changes of the age structure of population as a consequence of fertility, mortality and migration processes; 2. The relation between segments of population concurrent on the field of economic and social policy; 3. The evaluation of the current policy and its regional distribution; 4. The estimation of future needs of elderly in the light of demographic projection to the year 2030.
