The impact of internal migration on fertility change in Turkey

This study examines the relationship between fertility and migration in Turkey. The data source of the study comes from demographic surveys carried out in Turkey since 1978. In the study different fertility inhibiting strategies of migrant and non-migrant groups are going to be analyzed using Coale and Bongaarts indexes. Changes in the marriage patterns, contraceptive use, breastfeeding practices and induced abortion will be presented in the study. Trends of fertility change will be analyzed using period and cohort fertility measures. After measuring and explaining the fertility behaviours of migrant and non-migrant social groups, policy implications which can be drawn from the analyses will be presented in the final section of the study.
