The neoclassic human capital model is the theoretical foundation upon which the analysis are grounded. The empirical studies of the determinants of migration in Brazil were done with the application of multiple regression macro models based in the gravitational model and Poisson distribution. In the empirical model, the number of migrants between Brazilian mesoregions were the response variable and many socioeconomic and criminal aspects of the origin and destiny of the flux of migrants were used as explanatory variables as well as the distance between these regions and many geographical dummies. Many of these were significant, such as: the variables of the gravitational models; regional income differentials; labor market aspects; and geographical polarization. The empirical findings in this work were then compared with other results obtained in similar studies done by other authors.
